They force-fed Merrill Lynch down the Bank of America‘s throat. Well, sort of. But now, the Feds have advised BofA CEO Kenneth Lewis to not take a bonus this year — oh, and a salary. (Bloomberg)

Not surprisingly, the bank suffered its first quarterly loss of the year. It was a big loss, and fell short of analyst expectations. (WSJ)

The U.N.-backed investigation into Afghanistan’s long and troubled presidential election has cut incumbent Karzai’s tally to about 47 percent. Preliminary results had given Karzai 54.6 percent of the Aug. 20 vote. Runoff. (WaPo)

The vote to endorse the Goldstone Report, the controversial documents on the latest Israeli-Palestinian conflict, passed the U.N. Human Rights Council. The vote passed with 25 votes in favour, six against and 11 abstentions. The U.S. voted against. (Guardian)

New York State Assemblyman Adam Clayton Powell IV plans to explore the option of running against Congressman Charlie Rangel (D-NY). Powell first ran against Rangel in 1994, hoping to reclaim the seat his father, Adam Clayton Powell Jr., had held for decades before losing to Rangel in 1970. (City Hall News)
